MTA Police are investigating a fatal train strike at a Metro-North station in Westchester involving an unauthorized man who was on the tracks Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 1:15 p.m., the 12:47 p.m. Harlem Line train from Grand Central Terminal that was due in Southeast at 2:16 p.m. struck the man at the Fleetwood Metro-North in Mount Vernon, a Metro-North spokesperson said, noting that the incident “doesn’t appear to have been accidental.”
The incident is actively being investigated by the MTA Police Department. The strike and subsequent investigation led to 15-minute delays for riders on the Harlem Line.
The spokesperson said that customers on board the train that struck the man boarded the next Southeast bound train at the station. The man’s identity has not been released by officials as police notify the family.
